The Moods On New Single 'Carnival'

'Carnival' is the latest release from North West originating urban and EDM collecticve The Moods. Having been celebrated by the Morning Star as as "a dance, calypso and reggae soul extravaganza", this summery track features Jamaican artist Tixxy Bang, alongside a plethora of brass instruments and sun kissed calypso dance beats.

The Moods have been wisely described as "Rage Against the Machine, The Prodigy and The Happy Mondays mixed into a grime-soufflé". The band, having formed in Manchester in 2014, unify rap, brass and stings to deliver a unique fusion of drum and bass, hip-hop, reggae and EDM.

We caught up with the band to chat about their latest single and more!

What was the impetus behind new single 'Carnival'?

Carnival was written about that feel good vibe you get when festival season comes around. The feeling of finishing work on a Friday and heading off with your mates to go see your favourite bands. For us as a band it's just as exciting and we wanted to capture those feelings in a piece of music. The Video was filmed at Highest Point festival earlier this year; we were invited to play the BBC introducing stage and the Video encapsulated the spirit of the song perfectly. It has been our most successful single so far and has been played on National BBC6 music as well as making it to Tom Robinson's Introducing Mix-tape.

How did Tixxy Bang get involved?

Tixxy performed at a show we did in Sheffield last year and we really enjoyed his set. I think the feeling was mutual so we kept in touch. When we started writing Carnival we felt it with be a great track for Tixxy to get involved with and he was more than happy to do so. Tixxy has joined us live for a couple of live performances including a great night at the O2 Ritz in Manchester, and at Highest Point festival.

What's coming up for The Moods in the future?

We have a busy time ahead! We have a massive Edinburgh festival appearance coming up August 18th, then we open the brilliant Moovin Festival main stage on august 25th playing with the likes of De la Soul, Goldie, Stero MC's and Groove Armada. We are also about to be announced as a headliner act on one of the Musicians against Homeless Stages, at a major UK summer festival, so watch out for that news.

Furthermore, you can catch us weekend at the Blackpool festival lights switch on Sept 1st at the Waterloo music Venue, or when we return to MCR on September 29th to headline Sonder Fest at FAC251. You'll see us back on the festival circuit too. Possibly a European tour. We'll see how things go.
